NEW YORK – New York police shot a man in Brooklyn who was said to be armed with a machete, according to law enforcement sources.
The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on New Lots Avenue between Snediker Avenue and Hinsdale Street in East New York, police sources said. The agents were approached by a man brandishing a machete.
The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was shot in the leg and a machete was found on the spot, according to police sources. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital, authorities said, where he is expected to survive.
It was not immediately clear what led to the encounter between the police and the individual, nor is it known how many shots were fired by the police. There were no other reports of injuries.
