The facts took place this Monday morning around 7 a.m., inside the Gare du Nord in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. The individual is dead.
Around 7 a.m. on Monday, an armed man threatened a police patrol inside the Gare du Nord in Paris. The facts took place on the tracks of the “main lines” trains.
The two police officers used their administrative weapon against the suspicious individual who was walking in their direction with a knife equipped with a blade of about 30cm. The man, of European type, died according to a source close to the investigation at BFMTV. No injuries were reported among the police.
“I start to climb the stairs that go up to the Eurostar platform, I hear screams on the right. I see a man, quite tall, a large knife brandished in his hand with a very impressive blade which threatened two – three policemen who were armed (…) The police made us go up on the platform, made us lie on the ground”, testifies Grégoire, present on the spot, at the microphone of BFMTV.
No remarks of a terrorist nature were made. At the microphone of RMC this Monday morning, the Minister Delegate for Transport Jean-Baptiste Djebbari declared that the terrorist track is “a priori at this stage” dismissed.
An anti-police inscription was found on the man’s knife.
Gérald Darmanin salutes the action of the police
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin confirmed the facts in a tweet, welcoming the action of the police who “removed all danger for themselves and for travelers”.
A wide security perimeter has been set up at the departure level of main line trains. Several trains are delayed, especially for Eurostar departures.
