Last night, the police seized a fake explosive at the Korte Hemenweg in Stadskanaal. Police received a report around 2:30 a.m. that a strange object had been found near a car. According to a police spokesman, the object resembled a so-called pipe bomb.
The area was then cordoned off and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department of Defense (EOD) was also called in. After investigation, he concluded that it was a fake bomb. The fire brigade, ambulance service and Royal Netherlands Marechaussee were also called to provide assistance.
Police are looking for witnesses and CCTV footage. In addition, a neighborhood investigation is being carried out today in the hope of tracing the perpetrator(s).
