NEW YORK — Police are searching for a man who shot an assailant inside a busy New York City subway station, authorities said Wednesday.
No one was hurt when the gunman opened fire shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday inside the station. 49th Street in midtown Manhattan, a New York City Police spokesperson said.
A 49-year-old man was trying to rob a woman when the gunman shot at the would-be robber, but missed him, police said. The gunman fled. Surveillance photos released by police show him wearing black shorts, a green T-shirt and a green tote bag.
The 49-year-old man was arrested on charges of attempted robbery, police said.
An investigation is ongoing.
