NEW YORK (AP) — A getaway driver rammed an SUV from behind and caused it to crash into a New York City restaurant, injuring 22 people, police said Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. Monday in upper Manhattan, a police spokesman said.
A white Audi pulled out of a gas station and crashed into the back of a Toyota SUV, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, police said. The SUV drove off the sidewalk and crashed through the window of the Inwood Bar and Grill, police said.
A total of 22 people were injured in the crash, police said, mostly from shards of glass. Nineteen people were taken to hospital and the other three refused to receive medical treatment. Police said none of the injured were life threatening.
The driver of the Audi fled and was wanted on Tuesday.
