Their main mission was to clean up the scene in preparation for large crowds and prevent crime, and they were not dedicated protection personnel.
This is because political party leaders are not subject to exclusive protection by the National Police Agency except two weeks before the election date, that is, during the official election campaign period, or when their party requests personal protection.
According to the National Police Agency’s security regulations, only a few people, including former and current presidents, prime ministers, and National Assembly speakers, can receive police protection.
However, when the attack occurred today, the National Police Agency issued an order to provincial and provincial police offices across the country to expedite the formation of dedicated protection teams for key figures, including party leaders.
When a dedicated protection team is activated, it usually closely protects about 10 police officers and one politician.
In addition, it was announced that commanders such as the district chief will go directly to the scene and lead, and that detective teams and riot squads will be actively deployed to the visited locations.
As of today, 240 police personnel have been deployed to the Daegu visit of People Power Party Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon.
70 members of the personal protection team, 10 members of the detective team, and 120 members of two riot squad companies were deployed.
The police decided to continue establishing a hotline with political parties to establish safety measures for each event visited by major figures.
