Police Remove Cyclist from A59 and Impose Fines for Highway Riding

A twenty-year-old man from Poland was taken off the A59 by the police on Sunday evening. The man was riding his bicycle on the highway, without lights. The control room received several calls from concerned motorists.

It all happened on Sunday evening around half past eight. The man first drove with the traffic in the direction of Drunen. “But later he decided to turn around and cycle in the opposite direction to Waalwijk,” the Waalwijk police said.

Officers quickly arrived on the scene after reports from other road users and removed the man from the road. He was taken to the police station.

The man will receive several fines, as can be read in the police message. “Luckily he can tell the story.”

Other cyclists
It sometimes happens that cyclists are spotted on the highway. Last October, a young girl from Ukraine got lost and ended up cycling on the A27 near Breda. She drove around in the dark. Officers brought her home.

And in July, an eighteen-year-old cyclist was picked off the road in the middle of the night on the A2 between Den Bosch and Vught. The young man had consumed a lot of alcohol and had to pay a fine of 130 euros for his bike ride on the highway.

An additional fine of sixty euros was imposed for cycling without lights.

Officers guided the eighteen-year-old cyclist to the nearest exit so that he could continue his way home safely.
