Police received a tip about a suspicious person who followed Peter R. de Vries

An employee of the Amsterdam parking garage where Peter R. de Vries always parked his car for the recordings of RTL Boulevard saw a suspicious person there a week before the crime reporter was shot. He informed the security of the TV program and they reported it to the police. It is unclear what happened to his report, writes the German magazine The mirror. Sources have confirmed details of the story to NRC.

The parking garage employee told journalists from Der Spiegel that after the arrest of the two suspects, he recognized the Pole Kamil E. as the man who behaved suspiciously in the parking garage a week earlier. E. is seen by the police as the man who drove the car in which he and the suspected gunman Delano G. fled after the assassination attempt.

‘Suspicious person kept an eye on De Vries’

From his office, the employee would have seen how Peter R. de Vries was being watched by E. De Pole smoked a cigarette and then left. The garage employee called security guards from RTL Boulevard whereupon they contacted the Central Netherlands and Amsterdam police units.

That message also ended up with De Vries, sources say to the German magazine. De Vries himself did not want permanent security. But according to the lawyers of Nabil B., with whom De Vries worked, that did not mean that the State did nothing at all should have done, they said earlier.

Whether the tip ultimately led to additional security measures around the crime reporter, the police would not say. A spokesperson does say that the investigation into the two suspects of the murder also looks at the security of De Vries.
