Police Raids in Moscow: Crackdown on Nightclubs and Saunas

The raids started around 10pm on December 1st and continued until around two or three in the morning on December 2nd. According to the source, the police searched three establishments. They were held under the pretext of searching for narcotic substances.

“In the middle of the party, they stopped the music and [policija] started coming into the hall. Citizens of other countries were also at the party. The scheme was well thought out, because this is how similar clubs in St. Petersburg were closed,” said an eyewitness of the event.

“Beware Moscow” noted that the club’s administration warned visitors in advance that the police would be there.

“It was just another normal party until the owner came out and said that people in uniform would be coming in an hour due to the recent law.

The dance floor was empty within 20 minutes,” said one of the visitors of the “MONO” bar.

“Beware Moscow” writes that people were also detained in the “Malaya Yakimanka” club.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has not commented.

According to reports on social networks, the police also came to a men’s sauna. “There were short, show-worthy masks in the sauna, everyone was told to lie face down,” said the eyewitnesses.
