Police put out fire in Salzburg – Fireworld.at

SALZBURG: There were dramatic scenes around 02.35 a.m. on May 26, 2021 in an apartment building in the Salzburg district of Gnigl: In front of an apartment on the top floor of the house, a fire broke out for a currently unknown cause.

A 29-year-old family man, his 24-year-old partner and the two-year-old son were locked in the apartment and loudly shouted for help through a skylight. After a police patrol from the Gnigl office arrived, the two police officers were able to establish contact with the trapped people and have the key to the front door thrown at them by shouting. With the fire extinguisher carried in the police vehicle, a police officer ran to the top floor and was able to put out the fire there.

The second policewoman kept in contact with the people in the apartment and, due to the heavy smoke, gave the order not to leave the apartment and to wait for the fire department. Using heavy respiratory protection, the fire brigade was able to rescue the trapped people from the house. After initial treatment by the Red Cross, all three people with suspected smoke gas poisoning had to be admitted to the Salzburg State Hospital; the police officers who intervened were unharmed. The investigation into the cause of the fire was started by specialists from the criminal department.
