Most of the eight people found dead in the US state of Illinois were related to the suspected perpetrator. The police confirmed this today.
Police found seven victims in two houses on the same street in the American city of Joliet, about 70 kilometers from Chicago. The suspected perpetrator Romeo Nance also probably killed a man near an apartment. And he injured another man on the street.
Motive still unclear
According to police, the seven people killed in the two houses are all related to each other and “all or almost all” are related to Nance. Two girls aged 14 and 16, among others, were shot dead. The police are still in the dark about the perpetrator’s motive. “We have no idea what was going through his mind. We simply have no idea why he did what he did,” said the local police commander. According to him, the motive may never be revealed because the suspect is also dead.
The investigation started on Sunday afternoon after the murder of a 28-year-old man who was shot in the head while buying a pack of cigarettes near his apartment. The police soon linked the car that was seen to an earlier shooting in which a man suffered a wound to his leg. The search for the car led the police to the two houses where the dead family members were found the day before yesterday.
Nance fled to Texas, where he likely killed himself after a shootout with police.
