Police picks home-built go-kart from the road in the Western Docklands

The police were surprised this afternoon when a self-built go-kart passed at high speed and without a license plate during a check at an illegal street race on the Siciliëweg in the Western Harbor area. On inspection it turned out that this kart was equipped with a 600cc motorcycle engine and that it lacked a functioning brake. The police have confiscated the kart and will most likely be destroyed.

At around 4 p.m., officers saw from a surveillance police helicopter that a street race was being held on the Siciliëweg. More than 200 vehicles were present at that location. Several drivers were fined. The driver of the kart received a police report for “driving on public roads with an unregistered vehicle” and a police report for “driving an uninsured vehicle”.

Spectators

When the police arrived, they saw a car making donuts with screeching tires. While the driver did this, spectators stood watching the scene. The driver’s driving license has been taken away and he is obliged to follow an EMG course (Educational Measure Behavior and Traffic), which costs him about a thousand euros and takes three days.
