A serious security situation revealed a recent operation by the Police in the city of Medellín where in an investigative process carried out by members of the Gaula they captured eight members of a criminal network that had been whipped, with extortion charges , to different neighborhoods in the northeast of the city.
According to Colonel Richard Fajardo, deputy operational commander of the Metropolitan Police, the men identified as ‘Dyllan’, ‘Geovanny’, ‘Eney’, ‘Anderson’, ‘Eudil’, ‘Dionisio’, ‘Leonardo’ and ‘Luis’, could receive income of up to 7,200 million pesos in a year for charges that ranged from 80,000 to 100,000 pesos each month from merchants and inhabitants.
It was even possible to verify that these people demanded money for the use of the aqueduct service in invasion areas.
“The water service is not through the municipal administration, but comes through a particular aqueduct that they have there. What they do is close or open the tap when they make the charges or pay themselves, the extortionate charges to provide this type of public services to the community,” Fajardo explained.
During the raids, authorities also seized a pistol and two less lethal firearms, as well as ammunition and three mobile devices that they used to coordinate criminal activities.
