It is around 9 p.m. today, April 12, 2023, when a police operation, which is unusual at the time, starts on Bornaische Straße in Leipzig Connewitz. Not unnoticed by passers-by and residents, officers break into a house. Shortly thereafter, at least one person is led out, the first to show solidarity with the person concerned, and there are scuffles with the police. Shortly thereafter, the transport towards the police headquarters in Dimitroffstrasse, where a solidarity demonstration is currently developing.
The call to the police station does not bring any further information about the reason for the arrest(s) that evening. It is also initially unclear whether two people could be affected by the police action this evening. According to the first information shortly after the measure, there is a minor and one who is allegedly in custody because of an execution arrest warrant. This would indicate an unpaid fine.
But it is clear that they are networked in the left-wing scene, whether the arrest has anything to do with it, not. In addition to the people who have meanwhile come to the police headquarters from Bornaische Straße, others have gathered who have noticed the first reports on Telegram.
Among them also lawyer and Green City Councilor Jürgen Kasek, who has already been able to speak to an imprisoned person and can confirm the execution arrest warrant to LZ. The minor is said to have suffered a panic attack when he was arrested, according to the police station on Dimitroffstrasse.
A spontaneous meeting was also registered on site for the approximately 15 people present a few minutes ago, police officers have taken up a position in front of the station. At around 10:10 p.m., the first person has just been released from custody.
10:30 p.m.: Accidentally ended up in the PD
The person who has already been released from custody and who had the panic attack appears to be a somewhat macabre case of coincidence.
All of the allegations against her arose during the raid on the other arrested person, when the person happened to be near the apartment. Starting with “damage to property because of graffiti” in or on the house while the arrest was in progress, to “resistance to law enforcement officers” and “damage to property” because the person in the police car is said to have hit the inside wall.
According to initial information, the second person arrested is to be released that night. The spontaneous demonstration at the police headquarters now includes around 35 people.
With the release of the first person and the information that the second person imprisoned is also to be released that night, the atmosphere on site has noticeably relaxed. All you have to do now is wait for the door of the police headquarters to open a second time and then calm down again.
Addendum: The actual arrest is of a female person against whom there was an enforceable enforcement from 2020 due to unpaid fines and penalties.
