Police open investigation after road rage on E17

Road rage

A video of extreme road rage between the drivers of a Tesla and a gray VW van is circulating on social media. It just doesn’t result in a collision. The Federal Police has started an investigation.

It is not yet clear exactly when the images were taken, although it may have been last Tuesday. There is certainty about the location: the road rage happened on the E17 near the Sint-Niklaas exit, in the direction of Ghent. A dark-colored Tesla model 3 and a VW van interfered with each other several times in the center lane and the left lane, while it was quite busy. Both drivers had to brake hard several times to avoid a collision.

Afterwards, the driver of the Tesla took the Sint-Niklaas exit, merging right in front of a truck and almost causing another accident.

Based on the images, which are circulating widely on social media, the Federal Police launched an investigation on Wednesday. The Tesla’s license plate is clearly visible in the images. “Road aggression and unsafe behavior do not belong on the road and are life-threatening. Anyone who witnesses these types of facts should report this to the police as soon as possible,” says An Berger, spokesperson for the federal police.

The drivers risk being summoned to court, where they could be sentenced to a driving ban and a fine.
