Police Officers Sentenced for Intentional Violence and Forgery: Latest Court Deliberations

The court delivered its deliberations in the case of intentional violence and forgery of public documents, of which six police officers from the territorial contact brigade (BTC) of Pantin (Seine-Saint-Denis) were accused. This was judged last June.

This Thursday afternoon, he imposed the harshest sentence on Raphaël I.: three years in prison, two of which were suspended, accompanied by a ban on practicing and a ban on carrying a weapon for five years. Christian M., head of the BTC, was sentenced to ten months in prison, six of which were suspended. Three other defendants received sentences ranging from six months suspended to six months indefinite, for Yazid B. Only one was acquitted.

“Sentences which may seem significant,” explained President Dominique Pittilloni. The court had to judge people, who hold a portion of public authority, who guarantee the freedom and security of citizens, pillar of democracy and the Republic. »

Last June, sentences of up to six months in prison and five years of disqualification were requested against these six police officers accused of violence against 14 complainants. Many young people from the projects and a building guard had denounced their muscular interventions with tasers, headbutts and other “Mexican-style” searches, outside of all legality. They were also accused of forgery in public documents, for having falsified reports, as well as home invasions. Seventeen disputed facts were identified.

Acts committed in the Scandicci, Courtillères and Pommiers cities

The court notably recognized the guilt of Christian M., head of the brigade, who had broken, with a baton, the hand of Mamby K., a 17-year-old boy from the Scandicci city, and wrote a forged document. The defendant had justified the baton blow by the fact that he wanted to make him let go of the collar of a policewoman that the teenager had grabbed.

However, the official had denied the attack on the young man. “The medical certificate is consistent with Mamby’s statements,” the court ruled. Mamby K. will receive the sum of 5,000 euros as a provision.

The Territorial Contact Brigade (BTC) of Pantin hit the headlines between 2019 and early 2020. These field police officers slipped up during interventions, notably in the Scandicci and Courtillières cities. The first was a very active deal point at the time.

The actions of the officials could have continued if two of their victims had not filed complaints. Among them, therefore, a building caretaker, in the city of Apple Trees. It was him that Raphaël I. was accused of having hit gratuitously.

For the second complainant, the process was not easy. Mamby was very unfavorably known for drug trafficking in Scandicci.

A police officer nicknamed “the dictator”

But following his custody, the Bondy medical-judicial unit prescribed him 45 days of ITT (temporary incapacity for work). His left hand was broken by a baton during the police raid. This teenager, aged 17 at the time of the events, pointed the finger at a police officer, whose identity he did not know but who was nicknamed “The Dictator”, because of these violent methods, to say the least.

At the hearing, the colleagues of the defendants, who had confirmed these abuses before the IGPN (general inspectorate of the national police), were suddenly struck by amnesia. The public prosecutor Loïc Pageot had therefore requested the acquittal, due to lack of evidence for two agents.

In their defense, the defendants pleaded the pressure of the figure. The commissioner at the time had made the dismantling of this oven (traffic site) one of his priorities. It had been given as a “signature to harass the dealers”. “The commissioner had given them carte blanche,” said Me Forlot, lawyer for one of the police officers.

In any case, the technique bore fruit. Three years later, the Scandicci deal point is nothing more than a shadow of itself even though traffic remains at the foot of the maze of buildings.
