When recording a crime scene, two detectives are said to have stolen cash and items from an apartment as part of a death investigation. The public prosecutor’s office in Darmstadt is investigating the 54-year-old police officer and his 52-year-old colleague on suspicion of joint embezzlement, the police in Darmstadt said on Monday.
The alleged act in November 2022 was filmed by a surveillance camera. Relatives then contacted the police.
“The allegations weigh heavily” – an official admits
One of the two suspects had already admitted the crime and apologized, the police said. More information about the crime scene and the case at the time were not initially available.
“I am very disappointed with the actions of the two officers,” said police chief Björn Gutzeit. “Such allegations weigh heavily.” Both investigators from the police headquarters in southern Hesse have been prohibited from carrying out their official duties until further notice. A house ban was also pronounced. The case will be “completely cleared up”, he announced.
