The head of the national police force (FPN), Major General Serge Hervé Ngoma has just announced a suspension of the issuance of authorizations to leave the territory to police officers.
According to the note referenced n°01206 of July 21, 2023, the Commander-in-Chief of the National Police Force (FPN), the police are prohibited from leaving the territory. This measure is effective From the date of signature of this, the authorizations to leave the national territory and the garrison are suspended until further notice”. The reasons for this authorization suspension were not given in the captain’s note. But this decision suggests that it is related to the 2023 elections which will take place on August 26 in Gabon.
Indeed, Gabon will organize on August 26, 2023, three elections, namely: the presidential election, the legislative elections and the local elections. Certainly, the Commander-in-Chief of the National Police wishes to keep all of his troops mobilized to carry out this mission. THE Security and defense forces are assigned to secure the surroundings of the polling stations, certainly the reasons why the head of the national police force General of Division Serge Hervé Ngoma made this exit.
In his note, Major General Serge Hervé Ngoma specifies that exceptions could be made for cases of force majeure, particularly with regard to health emergencies. To do this, it would be necessary to “health emergencies are duly certified by the Medical Director of the Health Service of the National Police Forces”, he mentioned General Serge Hervé Ngoma in his note.
