A second suspect, accused of having participated in the attack on three plainclothes police officers on July 20 in the Guillotière district in Lyon (Rhône), was placed in police custody, announced the prosecution this Sunday, July 31, 2022.
“A suspect has indeed been placed in police custody and will be presented on Monday to the investigating judge in charge of the case who will decide on the action to be taken”said the prosecution to theAFP without giving more details.
Three plainclothes police
On Tuesday, a first suspect had already been indicted on the charge of aggravated violence against police officers and placed in pre-trial detention.
This 26-year-old man is in an irregular situation and has no criminal record. He “did not dispute the facts” and has “apologized”had indicated to theAFP Me Laurent Bohé, lawyer for the victims.
Two police officers were injured on the evening of July 20 while trying with a colleague to arrest a person suspected of theft, in the middle of a crowd who violently attacked them.
On a video posted on social networks, we can see three plainclothes police officers, two men and a woman, being beaten and thrown by projectiles in front of the entrance to a convenience store in the sensitive Guillotière district.
A first suspect exonerated
A first suspect was first arrested then dismissed. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin had reacted on Twitter after the arrest of this first suspect, also a foreigner, indicating that he would be expelled.
Once this suspect was exonerated, he wrote, in a second tweet: “in connection with the events or not, known for many questionings […] this individual has no place in our country”.
The man in question is the subject of a previous obligation to leave the territory (OQTF) and must indeed be expelled, had specified Monday to theAFP a source familiar with the matter.
In addition, the author of the tearing of a necklace, at the origin of the intervention of the police, 18 years old and already convicted of thefts, is actively wanted, the prosecution had indicated on Tuesday.
