Police officer Simona claims someone planted cannabis in family car (Review)

  • During her detention, the uniformed woman gave the keys to her ex-husband, which made it difficult to search the Volkswagen – the inspectors had to remove the back seat
  • Her father is a former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who was acquitted of murdering a thief with 20 convictions

The young and beautiful policewoman Simona Luleova spent exactly 40 days in custody, caught with cannabis in the car she was driving.

After two decisions of the district court in Razlog and the district court in Blagoevgrad for permanent arrest, finally the 25-year-old employee of the Ministry of the Interior was released on BGN 5,000 bail. Despite the lighter measure, the magistrates are adamant that for now the assumption remains that she committed this crime.

A few days ago, there was a real danger that she would motivate some of the persons to be questioned as witnesses to give false testimony, but now this has been dropped as a reason for her remaining behind bars. In addition, the deteriorating health of the young woman, as well as the obligation to look after her 5-year-old child, require a change in the imposed measure, the magistrates reasoned.

For now, the policewoman will not return to work, because disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against her and she has been suspended until its conclusion.

For the prosecution, there is no doubt that the employee of the capital’s seventh police station knew about the drugs in the car, and therefore she was charged with possession, but not with distribution. However, Simona Luleova is adamant that this is a stage and someone slipped the packages of cannabis.

The surprise check was done on January 28 at around 2 p.m. in the area of a gas station near Razlog. The policewoman, who is from the Razlog village of Banya, was stopped while driving a Volkswagen on the way from Simitli to Razlog.

During the inspection, her colleagues found a black plastic bag under the bark in the trunk of the car, on the rim of the spare tire. Inside it were placed two smaller bags of cannabis with a total weight of 475 grams.

The accusation is categorical that the woman knew what she was transporting. She first sought assistance by phone from a colleague to find out the reason for the suspension and for a faster check.

“Her overall demeanor during the inspection points to intent. She was worried, she called a fellow police officer. Her ex-husband comes to the scene and she hands him the phone and the keys,” said prosecutor Irina Asparukhova.

To her ex-husband, Miroslav Ivanov, Simona gave a link with the keys, which included the ones from the car, and thus made the inspection difficult. She gave the keys to another car to her colleagues, who were carrying it out, so they couldn’t open the trunk. They had to remove the back seat.

During the remand hearing, Luleova asked to be released to take care of her 5-year-old daughter, take her to drawing lessons and study for state law exams. However, the magistrates then decided that her parents and ex-husband could take care of the child.

The policewoman also explained that the car is not hers, but her brother’s and it is suspected that cannabis was planted.

From a report of “Internal Security”, presented in court, it is clear that in the spring of 2022 she was detained in the Burgas region, and a sample with another test established that she was driving under the influence of drugs.

“My blood sample was delayed for 2 months and finally it became clear that I had not used drugs, and everything was stopped,” explained Luleova. She also asked to explain another claim of the prosecution.

“Both car doors were open. I called my ex-husband to give him the keys to the house and to pick up the child that my grandmother was looking after at the time. Those from the car were on the same connection. I showed the policemen how to remove the seats”, added Luleova in her defense.

The police officer’s twin, Silvia, and their mother, Elena, believe that the marijuana found in Simona’s car was planted and staged.

A week before their 31-year-old brother Georgi was beaten from criminally manifested.

“We filed a complaint with the police. Even then, many people warned us that we would have trouble,” said Silvia Luleova. Her mother explained that the car in which the marijuana was found had been parked for 3 days near their home in Razlog, and one of the doors was not locked and someone had put the drugs there.

“It could have been any of us, because it’s a family car and we all drive it. Before that, Simona and I went with our other car to Sofia”, added Elena Luleova.

The 31-year-old brother of the twins, Georgi, was beaten on January 22 in a villa area near the village of Banya by an acquaintance of his who was known to be a criminal. Georgi was admitted to a capital hospital with a broken jaw.

3 years ago, the twin Silvia was beaten in Sofia. The young woman was visiting an acquaintance in a block of flats in a metropolitan district. On her way out, the evening was met by a transvestite, and without any explanation, he attacked her with his fists. She received serious injuries on her face and suggests that the cause was precisely the boy she was visiting and with whom the transsexual attacker was probably in love.

10 years ago – on March 23, 2013, father Ivan Luleov shot a thief. At that time, the man worked as a senior police officer in the “Security Police” sector of the Plovdiv division of the Transport Police. Around 11:30 p.m., he received a signal that cables had been stolen in the area of the General Kovachev railway station on the Septemvri – Dobrinishte narrow-gauge line, and went to see what had happened. He found that two people raised about 70 meters of copper wire, which ensured the safety of cars passing through the nearby crossing.

About a kilometer from the railway station, he saw the thieves loading a coiled cable into the trunk of the car. One ran away, and the second, Nikolay Ivanov, took out an ax from the trunk and started beating him and hitting him with the axe. In order to defend himself, Luleov pulled out his official “Makarov” and, while holding it in his hand, swung it at the thief. He inadvertently pulled the trigger and the loaded stop cartridge seriously wounded the thief.

The policeman immediately put him in his car and took him to the hospital, but the shot dead. Luleov was charged with negligent homicide because he used stopwatches without taking into account the specific situation and did not take into account the minimum permissible distance to the person he was shooting at.

The deceased 35-year-old Ivanov was convicted more than 20 times, and three months before he was killed, he was released from prison, and on the night of the theft he was drunk.
