Indonesian Police Officer Fired for Extortion at music Festival
JAKARTA, Indonesia – In a meaningful advancement addressing persistent concerns about corruption within Indonesian law enforcement, a high-ranking police officer has been dishonorably discharged for alleged extortion. AKBP Malvino Edward Yusticia (MEY), formerly the Head of Sub-Directorate III of the Narcotics directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, faced a disciplinary hearing following accusations of extorting attendees at the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) music festival.
The National Police Code of Ethics Commission (KKEP) hearing panel delivered it’s verdict on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025. Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, spokesperson for the Police Public Relations Division, announced the decision at a press conference at National Police Headquarters: “Dismissal without honor or PTDH as a member of the National Police.”
The decision, made by Inspector General Yan Sultra Indrajaya, chairman of the KKEP Hearing Council, followed a thorough examination including statements from nine witnesses. Beyond the dishonorable discharge, AKBP Malvino also received administrative sanctions. He was confined to a special facility for six days, from December 27th, 2024, to January 2nd, 2025, at the Patsus room of the Provos Bureau, Divpropam Polri.
General Andiko further explained the significance of the ethical sanctions: “Ethical sanctions mean that the violator’s behaviour is declared a disgraceful act.”
Despite the severe consequences, AKBP Malvino has appealed the decision. General Andiko confirmed, “Regarding this decision, the violator filed an appeal.”
