Officer injured in alleged resistance act: police officers insulted from the crowd – Hanau
(lei) During a police operation on Thursday evening in downtown Hanau, police officers provisionally arrested an 18-year-old. He is said to have threatened and insulted the officials, among other things. A police officer was seriously injured during the arrest, which involved a large group of apparently uninvolved young men.
The starting point of the incident was the discovery of drugs with a 31-year-old man around 8.30 p.m. in Rebengasse. Following the search of the apartment of the 31-year-old suspect, the police patrol was said to have been insulted several times on the street around 9.40 p.m. in the area of the old town market by the 18-year-old, apparently without reason. According to the patrol, the man from Hanau, who may have alluded to the previous search, also threatened to shoot the officers. In the course of determining the man’s personal details and searching for identity documents, he is said to have blocked himself from the measure and also kicked the police officers. A 28-year-old officer suffered serious injuries to his shoulder and had to be hospitalized. He could no longer continue his service.
In the meantime, around 40 young men have come around the goldsmith’s house, from whose ranks numerous insults are said to have been made against the emergency services. The charged situation could only be calmed by calling in more patrols. The 18-year-old, who was released after a blood test, now has to face criminal charges on suspicion of physical assault, insult and threats. In addition, it is checked whether the people from the group have to answer for suspected breaches of the peace.
For Jürgen Fehler, head of the Main-Kinzig police department and thus also of the Hanau police station at Freedom Square, this behavior clearly goes too far: “Police officers stand up for the law every day are exposed to outsiders and such threatening scenes are set up is simply unacceptable. Here limits are clearly being exceeded,” said the chief police officer. The police chief of the police headquarters in south-east Hesse, Eberhard Möller, also finds clear words: “Police officers are not lightning conductors. They deserve our fullest respect for their demanding daily work in the service of the security of the entire population.”
The police are now looking for witnesses to the incident who are asked to call 06181 100-120.
