A serious accident occurred early Friday evening around 5:38 p.m. on the BAB 66 between the Erlensee and Hanau-Nord junctions in the direction of travel Frankfurt am Main. A 32-year-old BMW driver from Frankfurt lost control of his vehicle due to inappropriate speed on a wet road and collided with a VW Golf in front of him, which was occupied by a family of 5 from Kesselstadt. Both cars skidded and came to a standstill off the roadway with considerable damage (total damage). While the driver of the BMW survived the impact unharmed, the occupants of the VW Golf suffered some serious injuries. Three adults were taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance. A 3-year-old girl was also taken to hospital as a precaution with minor injuries. A 7-year-old boy had to be flown to a clinic in Darmstadt by helicopter with serious injuries. The police, who were on site with several patrol cars, found the BMW driver to be under the influence of alcohol. The Hanau public prosecutor’s office ordered a blood test and the securing of the driver’s license, as well as the consultation of an expert for the purpose of reconstructing the accident. The complete closure in the direction of Frankfurt could only be lifted at 9:50 p.m. A total of 8 ambulances, 3 ambulances and 9 firefighters from the Hanau fire brigade were on duty at the scene of the accident.
