Pregnant and probably killed
The 22-year-old life sciences student lived with B. and his family in Hoorn, until nothing more was heard from her from February 18, 2018. The police quickly determined that she was probably the victim of a crime and that she is no longer alive. Shortly before her disappearance, Sumanta had told her mother that she was pregnant with Manodj. It was the second time she was pregnant with him.
Numerous searches for the student turned up nothing, but in an overheard conversation between Manodj and his brother Dennis, he is said to have said: “I just killed her.” Father Dwarka would also be aware, it seems, when the brothers say to each other: “Daddy must keep his clapper.” Both are also suspects in the case. It is also said in the conversations: “I stabbed her right through the heart.” Manodj was interrogated in May, but invoked his right to remain silent.

The next pro forma hearing in the case is on October 11. Months after that, the substantive treatment will take place. The father, mother, brother and sister of will follow the continuation of the case from Suriname. According to the family’s lawyer Priya Soekhai, “the best place to process everything is at home,” she said at an earlier hearing.
During this session, Soukhai already spoke about ‘relatives’. “My clients have no hope that their Sumanta is still alive, especially after that conversation about ‘straight through the heart’, but they do hope that her remains will still be found. They hope that someone will regret it, talk and still say where Sumanta’s body.”
The search in the recreation area will last from Monday to Friday, according to the police.
