Police have launched an ‘end-of-year campaign’ to clarify three unsolved cases in the past fourteen months. This concerns a fatal shooting in Houten, the discovery of a deceased baby near Lekkerkerk and a fatal shooting on a busy terrace in Rotterdam. The police say that these cases are in danger of getting stuck without new information.

Posters, flyer campaigns and radio spots are used for the end-of-year campaign. There will also be an extra broadcast on Thursday evening Investigation Requested. The Public Prosecution Service has also set a reward for the Lekkerkerk case and increased the rewards for the other two cases.

“There must be people walking around with certain knowledge that they have not shared,” says Martin de Wit of the police. “We appeal to them: this is the time to step forward and report. These are questions that cannot be left unanswered.”

At the beginning of March, a small deceased girl was found in a dark plastic bag on an island in the Lek near Lekkerkerk. It was a large baby, born after a full-term pregnancy. The baby, who was named Mirjam by the mayor, probably died a few weeks earlier.

“That must not have been an easy birth,” says De Wit, who speaks of an “incredibly tragic” case. “We are increasingly assuming that the baby must have come from the area. That is because the island is accessible from the quay with a gangplank. So you can get there, but you just have to know.”

That is why the police are sending out flyers in Lekkerkerk today. “There must be a super tragic story behind it, that cannot be otherwise,” says De Wit. “We cannot end that story like this. You also feel in Lekkerkerk that people experience it as an open wound.” A reward of 10,000 euros is now being offered in the case.

Another case that the police are now drawing attention to comes from October last year. Then shots were fired on a busy terrace on Tiendplein in Rotterdam. 30-year-old Jaison Sanchez was hit. He died some time later in hospital. To this day, it is unclear whether Sanchez was the target or whether it was a mistaken murder. No suspect was ever arrested.

The police are now again calling attention to another shooting incident. That shooting incident happened in Houten, where 37-year-old Rishi Rampadarath was shot dead early in the morning of Thursday, April 20. He was met at his car by at least one person. After a brief conversation he was shot several times. No one has been arrested in this case either.

In both cases, a reward of 30,000 euros has been offered for the golden tip.
