Police laugh at women in South Sulawesi who report missing husbands, IPW touches on code of ethics

Macassar

Police officers of Biringkanaya Police, Macassar, South Sulawesi (Sulsel) laughed and joked that a woman with the initials AD who reported her husband missing had changed partners. Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) has strongly criticized police officers.

“It is clearly stated in the Polri Perpol Code of Ethics Number 6 of 2022 that Polli members in serving the community must be educated and there are also instructions to respect women in their duties,” said Sugeng Teguh, president of Indonesia Police Watch ( IPW) to reporters, Tuesday (3/1/2023).

According to Sugeng, the police officer’s statement could be classified as a violation of the code of ethics if the reporter did not accept it. Sugeng said that every member of the national police must be professional in carrying out their duties.

“The professionalism of Polri members on the front lines must be maintained so that the public will notice immediately if they act unprofessionally,” he added.

He asked to change partners

This case started when a woman with the initials AD in the city of Makassar reported to the police that her husband had been missing since December 26, 2022. However, during the complaint, the woman was asked to change partners.

This was confirmed by Biringkanaya police chief Kompol Andi Alimuddin. But he stressed that his members were just joking.

“Several members were sitting around joking when the mother arrived. The statement was taken by the members on behalf of Mr. Rusli. When the statement was taken, one member said, ‘if it’s lost, replace it,'” said Andi when confirmed detikSulselMonday (2/1/2022).

He emphasized that his members did not intend to laugh at the woman. According to him, the members of him were just joking, but it wasn’t the right place.

Now, the police officer is being investigated by Propam. However, the police officer, whose identity has not been mentioned, is still being questioned.

“It is still under investigation (Propam),” Makassar Police Chief Kombes Budi Haryanto said.
