Room 12 of the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has hosted the first session of the trial against a national police accused of counterfeiting currency. The accused belonged to the National Police Corps, specifically to the Group of narcotics from the La Laguna Police Station and, as stated by the prosecutor, Elena Arranz in 2016 he planned to get hold of some of the money seized in an anti-drug operation that amounted to more than 66,000 euros. To do this, he forged two 200 euro bills and 3 500 euro bills exchanging them for real money that remained in police custody.
The way to falsify them was to obtain banknote serial numbers by accessing through a link to the page of the Government of Murcia. In her statement the defendant has ngiven the facts they are charged with and affirmed that it was his partner who printed fancy banknotes for his daughter because “I wanted to use them to play supermarket. “ The Prosecutor’s Office considers that the accused is the author of the crimes of embezzlement and counterfeiting of currency for which he asks for 14 years in prison. The defenses ask for free acquittal.
