The National Police stated that they were investigating a viral photo showing the stupa in Jakarta Borobudur temple edited to look like the president’s face Joko Widodo.
The photo was spread by the former Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Roy Suryo on his personal Twitter account @KRMTRoySuryo2 until it went viral. He claimed that the photo was a re-upload that he got from social media.
“Cyber is currently investigating and profiling,” said Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo to reporters, Tuesday (14/6).
He also asked the public to be wise in using social media so that it does not cause hatred or other negative things.
Dedi said the police asked every community to respect the rights of others and maintain tolerance and unity in Indonesia through every post.
“Because digital traces can be used as evidence in the legal process as stipulated in the ITE Law,” said Dedi.
In this case, Roy uploaded the edited photo on Friday (10/6). In his photo caption, he alluded to the plan to increase the ticket price for Borobudur Temple to Rp. 750 thousand.
He also said that the photo was the result of the creativity of one of the netizens found on the internet. Roy also refused to be called the maker of the photo.
When re-uploading, Roy said that he also completed the identity of the original account of the original uploader of the photo. He said he only took from a pre-existing upload.
“I also save all the URLs for the first uploader, how come, you don’t understand the ITE Law,” said Roy.
Roy also complained about provocations from buzzers or buzzers on social media who attacked him as a result of the tweet.
