Just before the second night of Operation Night Watch by the Antwerp police, a suspected shooting was reported in the Palinckstraat in Deurne. Police confirm that there are indications of a shooting and are currently under surveillance.
“We were watching the match of the Red Devils when shots were heard around the 72nd minute,” says a witness. “Then everyone went out to have a look. We heard a moped and saw it driving away, there were two men on it. At least four or five shots could be heard. ”
Operation Night Watch is the much-discussed security action by Mayor Bart De Wever (N-VA) and Chief of Police Serge Muyters and is intended to curb drug-related violence in certain ‘sensitive neighborhoods’. The Antwerp public prosecutor’s office did not want to respond to the incident on Saturday evening. There are no injuries. The lab came on site for trace evidence. Further investigation will have to clarify the motive behind the shooting.
