This Sunday, June 4, 2023, the police in Portland (Oregon) revealed that they are investigating the discovery of six bodies of women found in the city over the past four months.
The police are affirmative, the observers much less… This Sunday, via a press release, the police declared that the remains of the six missing women had been found in Portland and its surroundings during the last four months. Three of the deaths are considered suspicious, with one of them being investigated for homicide.
If the local authorities affirm that these six cases have no link between them, the population, it is much more circumspect. To the point that the police had to publicly “condemn” the speculation around these corpses, and in particular certain press articles or publications on social networks claiming that a serial killer is at work in Portland.
“Anxiety and fear in our community”
The press release thus evokes “rumors” which are not “supported by the facts available at this stage” of the investigations and which cause “anxiety and fear in our community”. And to conclude: “While any untimely death is concerning, police have no reason to believe that these six cases are linked”.
Still, the tragic destinies of these women have obviously marked the spirits. Thus, since the disappearance in December 2022 of Kristin Smith, 22, whose body was then found in a wood near Portland three months later, five other corpses of women have been discovered. The latest dating back to May 7
This is Joanna Speaks, 32, who was found near a barn with blunt force injuries to her head and neck. It is this death which is the subject of a homicide investigation, specifies the police.
