Police Investigate Alleged Distribution and Sale of Unused KIP Cards to Junk Yards in Rangkasbitung, Lebak, Banten

Jakarta

The police will investigate thousands of Smart Indonesia Cards (KIP) which were allegedly not distributed and sold to junk yards in Rangkasbitung, Lebak, Banten. 3 boxes containing KIP and a number of folders were also seized by the police.

“We will investigate this first. (Finding at the location) is mostly paper, there was a folder, I haven’t read what was written, we want to study it first. We only took 3 samples, the same folder,” said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Lebak Police, Iptu Andi Kurniady was questioned, Friday (7/4/2023).

Andi explained that the owner of the junkyard had been questioned. Thousands of KIPs that are still sealed are obtained by collectors after being sold by unknown people.

That person brought thousands of KIP using a losbak car. Because it was dominated by paper, collectors then agreed to buy.

“The collectors are visited by people who want to consider all kinds of things, so the collectors take it,” he said.

Apart from collectors, the police will also examine parties from the bank and the agency that issued the KIP. An investigation will be carried out by the police soon.

“Our plan is to check with related parties, both the agency, or the party issuing the card and the bank,” he concluded.

Previously, thousands of Indonesia Smart Cards (KIP) in new condition were found in a junkyard, Narimbang Mulya Village, Rangkasbitung District, Lebak, Banten. It is suspected that the KIP was not distributed and sold to used goods collectors.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Lebak Police, Iptu Andi Kurniady, said that the thousands of KIPs were still wrapped neatly in a number of boxes and sacks.

“All the cards are new. Yes, they are still sealed. We haven’t dismantled all of them yet, some of the cards that we can see are KIP,” Andi confirmed, Thursday (6/4/2023).
