The van was clearly overloaded, so the police stopped a van with a horse trailer on the A1 near Bremen. The officials looked closely – and that was the end of the transport.
You see speeders, pushers and overtired truckers every day. But this time, the traffic police officers saved seven horses during a traffic check at the beginning of March. The van with a horse trailer was noticed on the A1 near the Arsten junction near Bremen. After the officers stopped the 35-year-old driver, they not only examined the van.
They found something terrible: “One of the seven horses transported had several injuries all over his body,” said the police in one communication. “In addition, there was no connected water supply in the car. During the journey, which lasted more than 20 hours, neither water nor a drinker for the animals were taken along.
But that was not the end of it: the mandatory tachograph was not in operation and the vehicle combination was also clearly overloaded. “The horses should be brought from the Netherlands to Romania under these conditions,” the officials said.
Transporter: No permit available
Hard to believe: there was also no permit for the transport. Therefore, the horses were “unloaded at a horse farm in coordination with the veterinary office, where care and treatment were ensured”. With that, the police had finally stopped the onward journey. A security deposit of almost 500 euros was withheld from the 35-year-old driver from Romania, and corresponding advertisements were made. The investigations are ongoing.
Not the only horse horror ride cops finished. A trip that ended in Wetzlar was unimaginable. The horses that came from Hungary had already covered more than 1,000 kilometers. Originally, a driver had reported the dangerous team because the animal in the trailer was apparently not properly secured. When checking the Vogelsang car park near Wetzlar in central Hesse, the officials brought three horses to light – two were on the back of the Renault.
The horses stood on the dirty floor of the Renault without bedding – and they had neither food nor water available. It later turned out that the floor had rusted through completely, and the boards above it had rotted away.
