Police intervene after shopper mistaken for shoplifter – HVZeeland

By: Roland de Jong

VLISSINGEN – The police intervened in Vlissingen on Saturday after a willing customer was accidentally mistaken for a shoplifter in Vlissingen.

The man was shopping at the Lange Zelke but the shop staff had mistaken him for a reputable shoplifter. “Although he looked a lot like the famous shoplifter, this man had nothing to do with him,” said one of the Vlissingen police officers on social media.

According to the police, the man in question was angry and worried that he would be rejected by other sellers now. “After the mediation, both the parties separated,” the police said.

How much can you talk about a ‘famous thief’ if he or she has not been identified? An innocent customer now a victim of fear and paranoia. Maybe we should put up a few more cameras and create neighborhood apps. We go off the rails a bit in the Netherlands when we start to see the danger in everything…
