Police Information On Deadly Shooting During Illegal Dance Party In BM Lounge

The victim’s remains were removed from the BM Lounge after extensive examination.



The 40-year-old Dutchman Vincent Meiland was killed in the early morning of Thursday 25 November during a suspected exchange of gunfire between two police officers Diego W. and Ronny R., and the 43-year-old suspect Roberto S. died. The Suriname Police Corps just reported this in a press release.

The preliminary police investigation revealed that an illegal dance party was going on in bar-dancing BM Lounge, attended by the two police officers and their partners. At one point, an altercation took place between one of the police officers and Roberto, which resulted in a shooting. The victim Meiland was fatally injured. The two police officers also sustained gunshot wounds and were seriously injured.

At one point, Roberto managed to get hold of the service weapon of one of the law enforcement officers and use it to flee the bar-dancing. Shortly afterwards, the police managed to arrest him, with the policeman’s handgun being found on him and taken into custody.

Vincent’s lifeless body has been seized by the police for autopsy on behalf of the Public Prosecution Service and the suspect Roberto has been taken into custody.

The two police officers have been admitted to a hospital for treatment. The Capital Offenses Division is charged with the further investigation of this case.
