With great effort, the police in numerous North Rhine-Westphalian cities and districts took action against excesses in the tuner and poser scene on the occasion of “Car Friday”. As early as noon, two cars and three motorcycles were secured during traffic controls in the Euskirchen district, according to the district police authority.
The police were there early on Good Friday because of a planned meeting of the tuner scene at the Nürburgring to take action against prohibited races, manipulation of vehicles and speeding. Also in some other places – for example in Düsseldorf, Dortmund and Duisburg – there were more controls from the afternoon.
“We’re at the start, but it’s still quiet so far,” said a spokesman for the Dortmund police late Friday afternoon – the city is considered a main meeting place for the tuner and poser scene. It was also still quiet in Duisburg at that time. But this could change at nightfall at the latest, said a police spokesman there.
In the state capital, the police planned a twelve-hour special operation because of “Car Friday”. Good Friday is considered the starting date for meetings of the autoposer and tuner scene. North Rhine-Westphalia’s Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) therefore recently announced strict traffic controls for this day.
“Good Friday is a public holiday and not a free pass for road threats. We will be on the streets with many police officers again this year and will be checking more closely,” he said in a statement from the Ministry of the Interior.
Poser repeat offenders are now threatened with a fine of 5,000 euros in Düsseldorf. If other people are endangered in the event of a repeat offence, the posers are even threatened with a fine of 10,000 euros.
