Police in Germany shot a man who threatened the area with a knife

Wednesday’s incident took place in Recklinghausen in North Rhine-Westphalia. A certain thirty-year-old man was harassing the community there and, according to witnesses, he also had a knife with him. The police shot him during the intervention.

The incident happened around 6pm in an apartment building on Hochfeld Street. According to Bild, the father had an argument with his son. The son pulled out a knife and wounded the father on the hand. The assailant’s mother called 911. When police arrived at the scene, the man with the knife attacked them. “Then the officers opened fire, one shot hitting the assailant in the neck,” it is burnedl Bild, saying that the man was fatally injured.

It is still unclear why the man reached for the knife.

A similar incident took place on Tuesday in Moers am Niederrhein in North Rhine-Westphalia. There, too, the police intervention ended with the knife-wielding attacker being shot dead. A week ago, police in Munich shot and killed a woman who attacked her with a knife.

Knife attacks are now a big issue in Germany, as the frequency is increasing every year.
