AT5 received several reports yesterday that police helicopters were in the air for hours around the border of the East and Center districts. Inquiries show that a helicopter participated in an exercise and that two other helicopters supported officers ‘on the ground’ with various incidents.
Several local residents wondered how it was possible that helicopters flew overhead for a long time. “Yesterday from 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., a helicopter hovered over the neighborhood. I find it disturbing that I don’t know what’s going on at all, but that a helicopter hovers over our heads for hours,” one of them told AT5. “A police helicopter has been flying circles above us for almost two hours, what’s going on? Many Amsterdammers want to sleep,” another responds.
According to the spokesman, these are three different helicopters that have flown over the area for a while. “First there was a police exercise, in which the helicopter was also used. In addition to the exercises, several reports were received where assistance from a helicopter was needed. Two helicopters alternated to support officers.”
