Police found him dead at his grandmother’s house – El Financiero

Dolphins NFL star Vontae Davis died at age 35 on April 1, police confirmed. His death was as sudden and mysterious as his retirement in 2018, in the middle of the Bills vs. Los Angeles Chargers, when he alone did not return to the field: “An idea just hit me. “I no longer belong on the field,” he said at the time.

The former Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins player was found dead at his grandmother’s house, located in Southwest Ranches, Florida.

The police report from the Davie Police Department (Florida), in the United States, details that officers attended to a medical emergency of an assistant in the house where he was located, in southern Florida.

“We are heartbroken by the sudden passing of former Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis and extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the Dolphins said in a statement.

“I am very saddened to learn of the passing of Vontae Davis. A great guy, teammate, player. My prayers to Vontae’s family,” lamented Colts owner Jim Irsay through his social networks.

What did Vontae Davis die from?

According to police and the Broward County, Florida, medical examiner’s office, Davis’ body was found dead in an event that, they said, did not involve any criminal act.

They did not explain the reasons for the death, but the investigation remains open.

Just a week ago he shared the release of a children’s book: ”Excited to share my journey from DC to where I am today through my signed children’s book! Filled with invaluable life lessons and gratitude for my support system.”

Who was Vontae Davis?

Vontae Davis had a 10-year career with the Miami Dolphins, Colts and Buffalo Bills, playing 121 games, 113 as a starter, adding 22 interceptions, 97 pass deflections and 395 tackles.

Vontae Davis was a cornerback, he came to the NFL selected in the first round of the 2009 Draft by the Dolphins and stayed with the team until 2011.

For 2012, the player went to the Colts in 2012, with whom he lived his best moments: He was selected to the Pro Bowl twice, before playing his last two games with the Buffalo Bills in the 2018 campaign.

Why did Vontae Davis retire?

His retirement was abrupt and unusual: it happened in the middle of the game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2 of that season.

The cornerback born in Washington, DC, started in the first half, but did not return to the field for the last two periods by his own decision, Bills head coach Sean McDermott reported at the time.

“He told us that it was over,” the coach said about what Davis mentioned to him on September 16, 2018.

Interviewed by the media five days later, the cornerback reiterated his retirement.

“Reality hit me fast and hard. I went to the bench after that last series and an idea just hit me. “I don’t belong on the field anymore,” she explained.

On Instagram he described himself as: “Former NFL cornerback, two-time Pro Bowler and part-time retirement sensation in 2018. Now entrepreneur and founder of Davis Hospitality Group.”
