Police fired over photos of arrest in which African American died

One of the three white police officers who detained Elijah McClain has been fired due to photos showing his colleagues re-staging the key that was applied to him before the black man died last year, according to documents from the prosecution.

After officers arrested McClain on the street last August for “being a suspect,” Aurora Police officer Jason Rosenblatt attempted to apply a key to her but was unable to due to the position she was in, so another officer did so. it is stated in a report by prosecutors.

Two months later, Rosenblatt received photographs of three of his colleagues who were smiling as they staged the application of a key at the place where McClain was arrested and where the public made an offering. He replied “haha”.

Rosenblatt and two officers pictured were fired from the Aurora Police Department after an internal investigation, the police chief announced Friday. The agent who imitated applying the key in the images resigned this week.

McClain’s death generated new attention after nationwide protests against police brutality and racial injustice. Democratic Governor Jared Polis last week ordered the state attorney general to reopen the case after prosecutors declined to press charges last year against the officers who confronted him.

Acting Police Chief Vanessa Wilson harshly criticized the four officers involved with the photos, saying that the explanation they gave is that “they were trying to cheer up a friend by sending him that photo.”

The police union said the investigation into the photos came to hasty conclusions.
