After reconnaissance of the scene, no casualties were to be deplored and the Toulonnais apartment was empty.
The police were hired on rue Augustin-Daumas in Toulon on Tuesday evening, after a call concerning a shooting in an apartment, BFM Toulon Var learned from a police source. It was actually a hoax.
The person on the phone said he was from the municipal police and explained that he had been contacted by a person claiming that a tragedy had occurred in an apartment. According to him, a man would have shot at his companion before taking refuge in the bathroom, while the victim would be very seriously injured.
Six police crews were then hired on site: the BAC with heavy equipment, and the RAID put on standby.
A hoax related to “Call of Duty”
During the neighborhood survey carried out by the police upon their arrival, a man spontaneously presented himself to them. This Toulonnais, 19 years old and unknown to the police, said he was the victim of a hoax which would have originated from the Discord application and linked to the video game Call of Duty.
After reconnaissance of the scene, the police found no victims, the Varois apartment being empty of any other occupant. Brought to the Toulon police station, the latter was interviewed before being released.
Denunciations of imaginary crimes are punishable by 6 months in prison and a fine of 7,500 euros.
