Police discovers sect in German monastery, Dutch ‘prophet’ arrested

In the Graefenthal monastery, the police found 54 people, including ten children. According to the police, these are people who ‘have a relationship with a religious community’. Possibly it concerns the Order of Transformants, an originally Dutch sectarian religious movement. The order has ‘circles’, in which believers belong to the same spiritual family.

A 25-year-old woman who was held against her will has been freed by the police. She has yet to be questioned.

Graefenthal is an ancient monastery that was founded in 1248. There are small and large buildings on the site. Because of the vastness of the site and the buildings with all kinds of stairs and entrances and exits, the police deployed more than a hundred people in the raid. According to the police, many items have been seized and are being investigated further.

It is still unclear how many people actually belong to the self-proclaimed prophet. Interrogation must show whether the Dutch person has done something punishable.
