Police disable landing strip for drug shipments in Apurímac

APURÍMAC. The National Police of Peru (PNP) carried out an operation in the province of Chincheros, Apurímac region, with the purpose of combating and neutralizing the shipment of drugs abroad. As a result of the police action, the agents disabled a clandestine landing strip used by criminal organizations.

After obtaining information about the existence of a clandestine landing strip, members of the Andahuaylas Police Division and the Anti-Drug Directorate arrived at the town center of Motoy, Ranracancha district. The agents moved through the area until they reached the slopes of a hill, where the runway was located, which was 800 meters long and 7 meters wide.

According to police information, the infrastructure was used to ship drugs abroad. With the support of the Huamanga Anti-Drug Tactical Operations Department, the landing strip was destroyed.

Prosecutor’s participation

The operation had the participation of the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Illicit Drug Trafficking of Huamanga. After the operation, the representative of the Public Ministry reported that they will continue working with the PNP to destroy other landing strips, which are used for drug shipments.
