Police detain 13 people from the tail unrest that happened in WamenaJayawijaya Regency, Papua Mountains on Thursday (23/2). The bloody riots killed a total of 10 people.
Even so, the police have not announced the status of the dozens of people detained.
“Some have been detained, while 13 people have been arrested,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Senior Commissioner Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo via text message, Saturday (25/2).
Riots previously broke out in Wamena which left dozens of TNI and Polri personnel injured. Papua Police Inspector General Mathius D Fahiri said that 18 TNI and Polri personnel were injured. The initial riot was allegedly related to the issue of child abduction.
In addition to the 10 people killed, 14 people were injured. There were also at least 13 houses burned during the riots.
Meanwhile, Ignatius said that the current conditions were under control after the riots.
Even so, the National Police are still tightening security in the area by adding 100 additional personnel from the Jayapura Mobile Brigade.
“Additional personnel from Brimob in Jayapura are 100 personnel,” said Ignatius.
Regarding this incident, Komnas HAM encouraged law enforcers to thoroughly investigate the case that resulted in the death of the resident. Komnas HAM also asked for recovery efforts for victims and their families.
