Bruchsal (kn) A slightly injured truck driver and a long traffic jam were the consequences of a truck fire on the A5 near Bruchsal on Monday morning, November 2nd. According to the findings of the police, the driver of an articulated truck was traveling south on the motorway. In the area of the Bruchsal junction, the man noticed a blown tire on the right front wheel of his truck. Instead of stopping immediately, according to the officials, the driver drove on until the next departure, with the tire overheating and catching fire. The truck driver suffered light burns on his arm when he tried to extinguish the fire. The alerted fire brigade was able to extinguish most of the truck, which had meanwhile also had the driver’s cab on fire, around 11:40.
Many violations of the formation of a rescue alley
The southbound carriageway on the A5 was initially completely closed. At around 12.10 p.m., the left lane was made available. The closure temporarily caused a traffic jam of up to eight kilometers in length. The left lane separated in the construction site area also had to be closed in the north direction in order to enable the emergency services to approach. According to the police, at least two cars were damaged by fire engines as they drove past due to disregard of the emergency lane regulations. In addition, there were around 40 violations of the formation of an emergency corridor that the traffic police identified.
