ANNOUNCEMENTS•
Police have impounded thirteen rental cars in the Roosendaal area since September after reports of anti-social driving behaviour. According to the police, there are increasing reports in the region of people driving too fast or dangerously in expensive, often German rental cars.
According to the police, it is often unclear who has rented the car and who is behind the wheel. “It appears the cars are changing hands and being used by more people on one side to stay under the radar and to be able to play the show,” police said.
Images of driving behavior on social media
On Wednesday, the last car was taken off the road on suspicion of driving. The driver was a 30-year-old man who, according to police, took videos of his driving behavior and posted them on social media.
The man was not registered in the Netherlands and could not prove that he was the renter of the car. He wasn’t arrested. According to Brabant broadcasting it concerns Muis911, someone who has been posting images of his driving behavior on social media for some time.
Notice for rental companies
The owners of all the seized vehicles have been notified. They have to pick up their car. The police want to send a signal to the rental companies.
“We are excited about the phenomenon of antisocial driving behavior and will take decisive action against it. Especially now that recently there have been more investigative powers to address unsafe driving behaviour. We also want to inform rental companies who are responsible for checking who they denounce the rental of cars”, said the police headquarters, underlining that this phenomenon also occurs in other regions.
Oud Gastel fatal accident
In early September, Oud Gastel arrived in Brabant two women and two children killed in a fight. A motorist collided with the car carrying the victims at very high speed.
The driver of the car that caused the collision, a 27-year-old Roosendaler, was arrested. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the motorist, who was in a rented Mercedes with a German license plate together with two others, had driven carelessly and is therefore responsible for the accident.
