Police confirm arrest of man after shooting near Trump

Washington.Palm Beach County Police Commissioner Ric Bradshaw confirmed the arrest of a man following a shooting near a golf club where former US President (2017-2021) and presidential candidate of the opposition Republican Party Donald Trump was staying.

According to several media outlets, the shooting occurred around 2:00 p.m. local time (6:00 p.m. GMT) at the Trump International Golf Club located in the city of West Palm Beach, in the state of Florida, according to the US Secret Service.

“Luckily, we were able to locate a witness who came to us and said, ‘Hey, I saw a guy run out of some bushes. He got into a black Nissan, and I took a picture of the vehicle,'” Bradshaw said during a news conference.

Thanks to information provided by a witness, law enforcement officers identified the car and determined the direction in which it was traveling and then, with the help of their colleagues, stopped it, he added.

“They saw the vehicle, stopped it and arrested the man. After that, we took the witness of the incident, took him there and he identified the person who ran out of the bushes and jumped into the car,” the commissioner said.

Police also found an AK-47 assault rifle with a scope, two backpacks and a GoPro action camera in the bushes where the man was hiding, Bradshaw said.

The shooting occurred “probably between 300 and 500 yards,” or between 270 and 450 meters from Trump, he added.

The US Secret Service reported that its “personnel opened fire on the gunman near the boundary of the former president’s property.”
