According to the federal public prosecutor’s office, this is a judicial investigation into the illegal trade in firearms, led by a Brussels investigating judge. Investigators from the federal judicial police raided sixteen places in Watermael-Boitsfort, Waterloo, Braine-l’Alleud, Kasteelbrakel, Laeken, Auderghem, Lasne, Ath, Verviers and Tubize on Tuesday. This involved house searches in private homes, but also in an arms trade and in a police station.
“Numerous small arms, long firearms and automatic weapons were found, as well as grenades,” said the federal prosecutor. In total, 374 weapons were seized for investigation, in addition to 400 kilos of ammunition and 12 vehicles, including several luxury vehicles. Weapons experts assisted the researchers in making it easier to identify the different types of weapons found. ‘
During the searches, the investigators also arrested ten people. These are arms collectors and two arms dealers, but also a police commissioner. “Five of them were made available to the investigating judge,” said the federal prosecutor’s office, which is not providing any further information for the time being.
