Nine arrests were made in London, the force confirmed, with one arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm from a police officer and three charged with assaulting a police officer.
A line of police officers attempted to disperse fans in Leicester Square as a supporter was seen unleashing a flare at Piccadilly Circus.
Deputy Deputy Commissioner Jane Connors of the Metropolitan Police Service said: “The Met has maintained a highly visible presence throughout London as people enjoy the Euros and celebrate England’s progression in the tournament.

“Last night after England’s game against Ukraine we saw several people take to the streets and I am pleased to say that all of this was largely of good character. Fans positively related to the officers and were scattered when asked.
“While a larger crowd gathered in Leicester Square, this area was cleared at approximately 11:30 PM. Two officers were injured when this area was cleared and, thankfully, their injuries are not life-threatening.

“We want people to be able to enjoy euros safely. We will continue to implement measures to maintain the safety of the public, prevent crime and disorder, and respond effectively to any incidents.
“I would also like to remind everyone that London remains in a public health crisis and we must all take steps to comply with the rules in accordance with government guidelines.”
England will now play Denmark at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday, in their first semi-final of the competition in 25 years.
