Police Chronology Rejects Reports of Robbery Victims Until They Are Sent Home

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

A resident admitted that his report was rejected by police when reporting the theft he experienced in East Jakarta.

He shared his story on his social media account @kumalameta. Through his upload, he also displayed CCTV footage when the theft occurred.

In the description of the upload, it was stated that the theft began when the victim stopped by a minimarket on Jalan Sunan Sedayu, East Jakarta and made a transaction at an ATM machine.

After that, the victim got into the car and left the location. A few hundred meters later, a man knocked on his car window, but he ignored it and continued on his way.

A few meters later, a motorcyclist came back closer and knocked on the rearview mirror while showing the back of the car. However, the victim ignored him and kept driving.

However, after that, again there was a man who knocked on the victim’s car window and said that the back of the car was a danger to others. Then, the victim pulled over his vehicle in front of PT JMT Jalan Jatinegara Kaum.

“When I got out of the car, it turned out that a man entered from the left door and took my bag (just like the one on CCTV),” the caption reads.

The victim then reported the theft to the nearest police station in Rawamangun, East Jakarta.

However, the police officer on duty advised the victim to go home to calm down. The member also told the victim that it was useless to look for the culprit.

“After that, the police actually scolded me, ‘Mom, why do you have so many ATMs, if that’s the case, it’s a hassle, especially when there are lots of admin fees,’ in a high-pitched voice,” the post wrote.

For this treatment, the victim was disappointed. Because instead of processing the report as a victim of theft, they ordered him to return home.

“Instead of helping to act, residents were scolded and told to go home, without any intention of helping, let alone coming to the crime scene. I really hope the government can act decisively on my case,” said the statement in the upload.

As a result, the member who rejected the report of the victim of the theft was taken to the East Jakarta Police for further processing.

“The member in question has been withdrawn to the East Jakarta Police,” said Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes E. Zulpan when confirmed, Sunday (12/12).

Meanwhile, East Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Erwin Kurniawan said that the member was being investigated by the Propam Division regarding the rejection of the theft victim’s report.

“The individual members are being investigated by Propam and taken to the Resort Police to facilitate the investigation,” said Erwin.

Later the victim re-uploaded the development of the case on his Instagram account. According to him, the police are now starting to investigate the case he reported.

“Regarding the unfavorable treatment by one of the members of the police station, he has also apologized directly to me. I hope that this crime case can be investigated and arrested so as not to disturb the public,” he wrote.
