Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – According to police chief Stefanie Hinz, the police inspector was initially shocked and stunned by the allegations of sexual assault. When she confronted him about it, he initially said that the commissioner who was accusing him could not do it, Hinz reported on Tuesday before the Stuttgart Regional Court. He is said to have said that he had no chance given the serious allegations. During the interview, the inspector also told her that the then 32-year-old police officer had gone through a difficult divorce and was often looking for contact with higher-ups. But then he also let it be known that the night in the pub with the policewoman was “too wild, too close”.
Hinz said the inspector had also asked her not to ban official business because that would end his career. He had urged that he be allowed to take vacation days and overtime instead – because of the external impact. His service weapon was taken from him, also to prevent him from doing something to himself in a knee-jerk act.
The court is hearing whether the highest-ranking police officer abused his position of power to urge a subordinate to do sexual favors. He is said to have sexually assaulted an inspector at a pub night. Shortly before, the two sat together with state police chief Hinz over champagne. The policewoman was in the selection process for higher service. Hinz is again invited as a witness on Friday.
